Create Christmas Gifts

Making giftsChristmas is approaching day by day. The 2020 Christmas shopping may not be as enjoyable as it should have been, due to the ongoing pandemic and all its restrictions. Maybe you are one of the good planners and started early in the Christmas preparations? Maybe you are almost done with the Christmas preparations – If so – well done!

I think that homemade Christmas gifts are so nice both create and receive. Christmas 2020 is going to be a different one, and why not try create Christmas gifts. I am sure you will feel both creativity, joy and satisfaction.

Here are three ideas:

Make photo albums:

What is more fun to receive than gifts that give you good memories? There are a lot of alternatives to what you can make out of photos. You can create an album with lots of nice pictures and text. I know by experience that parents and grandparents love those. When you create a photo album, you can unleash your creativity – finding the right background for the pages, and the perfect photos and text to match.

I like to give the album a title so that you get the feeling it is an actual book and that it will tell you a story. You can make multiple photo albums and give them different titles and themes.

Example of photo album I created after our first visit to Mexico:

There are lots of other gifts you can make out of photos – Coffee cups, puzzle games, calendars, posters, different clothes etc. Just check out some photo shops and see what they have to offer.

Make crochet pillow cases:

There are so many gifts you can make by crocheting. One of my favorites to receive is crochet pillow cases. I’m not good at crocheting myself, but I have decided to learn it properly. It is quite simple and there are many very good YouTube videos online that teach you this step by step, in addition to great crochet books.

A crochet pillow case is great for anyone, no matter what level you’re at. You just choose the yarn, color and type to customize your project. If you are a beginner, choose a basic crochet stitch, and make sure you make it big enough for the pillow by measuring. Crochet pillow

Make bowls from large round concrete shells:

Bowls made of concrete can be so beautiful with the right colors, and is also a very fun gift to both give and receive. To make these bowls you need a couple of ingredients: Concrete powder, mixing bowl, kitchen scale, balloons, latex gloves, paint and some water.

This is how you do it:

Step 1: Use kitchen scale and pour 60 g of water in a bowl.
Step 2:
Measure 400 g of concrete powder into the same bowl.
Step 3:
Mix the concrete powder and the water well.
Step 4:
Distribute the mixture over the top part of a blown-up balloon. Leave to dry for approximately 24 hours.
Step 5:
Puncture the balloon and remove it. Brush the cast shell free from dust.
Step 6:
Paint the inside of the shell/bowl with metal paint and leave to dry.

This is a great activity to do with the children as well, so why not make it a family day – Making new memories.

Refurnish and Feel Great

Covid-19 has led to isolation for many people. This can be incredibly difficult, and it will probably be extra hard for people who already suffer from mental illness. It is smart to do things that make sense to you and that give you joy in everyday life.

Refurnishing your home can be a daunting task in difficult times. Get a better order, freshen up a bit and create some changes. It’s amazing what this can do to the mind. There is a saying we use a lot in Norway, which is called: “Change delights” – and this is a very true expression.

When refurnishing, you get to use your creativity, and you get a completely new home environment. This can lead to you feeling better, more positively and the feeling you have accomplished something good. Decoratinhg

A good side of refurnishing is that you can take the opportunity to clean properly at the same time. A clean home has a lot to say for your well-being and gives you a good conscience when you finally sit down afterwards – Just enjoy and relax.

It’s also a good opportunity to decorate a bit extra – Decorate with some wild flowers or nice candles on the table etc.

Educate Yourself Online

There are tons of classes / courses you can take online. How about turning these tough times into something educational? There are online courses you can take for free, and there are other courses they might charge you for. This is a decision you have to make yourself, based on how your finances are.

Learning new things is always fun and it can boost your self-esteem when you feel you are mastering it. I personally have always loved school, and education. I could be a student forever if it was up to me. I have found my path, and I will stay on it, but I work hard to find courses and further educations that are relevant to my career path – there are always more to learn.

Maybe a free online course about covid-19 would be a good idea these days? I know there are several courses like this, and I will definitely check it out myself. I think this is so relevant for today s situation, and the more we learn about it the better. Online courses

Make a Website or a Blog

It goes without saying that this is something I personally think is very fun. This is an arena where you can unleash your creativity. You can convey your interests to a wide audience, and even make money from it – Think about it, make money on your own hobby.

For my own part, I started a website to be able to get an outlet for something I am passionate about – Writing. This has always been a big interest for me, and now I get to do it a lot. In addition to this, I get to maintain my English – as you probably know I am Norwegian, and in Norway we start learning English from primary school age. Maintenance is important, and this is the perfect place to do just that.

If you could be interested in learning how to create your own website, and even make money from it, I would highly recommend Wealthy Affiliate. Here you learn step by step through online training, you have a whole community you can ask for advice and tips and you get to meet new people from all over the world. Now doesn’t that sound great?
